The age of fast & Instant
A typical day at the office! by TAZ- Tech Accessory Zone owner, Guy Driver. Our day starts at 10am and so we generally arrive at around 9:50. Most days there is at least one person waiting at the door. We barely get time to turn the light on and they are in asking for help. "I cracked my screen" My son dropped my phone in the toilet" "it's stuck on the Apple logo, can you help" and as usual we gracefully accept the daily challenges and proceed to take one phone at a time with promises to do all we can for them. There are always some challenges, but we have a great success rate. Screens, Charging ports, speakers, microphones, vibrator buttons, volume buttons, LCD displays, no problem. Water damage, always a challenge but we have a 80% success rate. it just takes time because you have to first get the device to power up then you have to work through the phone one step at a time to find and fix the faults. This takes time, so we normally need the phone for 24 - 48 hours, minimum. But hey we don't charge to give you an estimate, so nobodies out but us if we don't fix it. Q & A with TAZ- Tech Accessory Zone's founder
What initially drove you to start TAZ?
Guy Driver - I started TAZ with a passion, i have been in retail all my working life and have a passion to make things happen. I started TAZ because i wanted to have a retail store that offered the widest range of Apple iPhone Accessories and where people could touch feel and see the product. I also saw the potential that the cellphone repair market was providing due to the vast increase of smart phone usage and the cost to replace the devices.
What do you attribute your success too?
Guy Driver - Simply one fact, Service, yes i know everyone says they have the best customer service. I say one thing and that's that we take every transaction to heart. It really stresses me out if we are having a problem with any device we are repairing because i take it so personally. For me, when you choose TAZ you did so because you felt comfortable and confident and that's why i will do everything humanely possible to give you the best service possible. My desire is to satisfy every customer that walks through our doors to do business with us. Sometimes that's difficult because electronics are not something you can always control.
How come you have not opened up more stores like your competitors??
Guy Driver - Well that's a great question. I feel that until i can open up a second or third store, i need to have all my ducks in a row and must have the ability to give the same quality service at each location. I think its imperative to be well prepared and insure that everything is done right. Opening store after store is easy. The difficult part is to do it right. All i can say is that i will be opening more stores and that i have big plans for the future of TAZ. I see my competitors opening up stores all the time around me, but i know where i am going and what i am planning, so it does not bother me.
Does the competition effect you?
Guy Driver - Competition is always good, i see a lot of great things my competition do and sometimes i am very impressed by there tactics. Competition is healthy and i can only learn from them. I only consider three companies here in Tampa as competitors. The rest are just getting by. As long as the competition is professional and ethical and keeps the standard, then i am all about good competition.
What is your next move?
Guy Driver - Well we do have a rather cool innovative plan that i hopefully will be getting off the ground within the next month. I hope that this will change the game a little and a new way we do business. So until then I'm all mum the word!
You repair all makes and models of Cell Phones, is it not better to specialize?
Guy Driver - Well we do, we specialize in repairing all Apple iPhone, iPad's, iPod's and Apple Mac'. That is what we are specialists in, but we have competent techs that can fix everything and for that reason we can do all makes and models of cell phones. Not everyone can do that, that's why they don't and we do. I am very hesitant to just do repairs on anything. So if we say we can repair it, then we will.

Numbers recently released point to just how close the U.S. is to having more smartphone than feature phone users: analysts say 49.7 percent of cell phone users currently own a smartphone, which a really big jump on what the figures were this time last year at 36 percent.
What’s increasingly clear regarding this growth is that it appears no other platform is proving to be a contender against Apple’s iOS and Google’s Android.
Currently, Android-based smartphones account for 48 percent of all smartphones owned in the U.S., while Apple’s different versions of the iPhone account for 32 percent. Both of those shares have grown: in September 2011, it is said that Android’s share was 40 percent and Apple’s 28 percent.
When it comes to the purchasing of smartphones, the power of Android and AppleiOS is even stronger. In the last three months, Android accounted for 48% of all handsets that were purchased, while Apple accounted for 43%.
This growth was at the expense of BlackBerry, now down to just 5% of handsets bought, with the rest of the other platforms — which includes Microsoft’s Windows Phone — accounting for 4% of smartphones that are been bought.
Apple in my opinion lead the way regardless, when you take into account the fact that Android has so many more varieties and manufacturers pumping out devices what almost seems daily. Just look at the fact that Motorola, Samsung, LG, HTC, Pantech, and of course others, all manufacture and back Android. So of course you are going to have a much higher percentage of sales. These manufacturers all have several models and then you look at Apple and say, "wow, only 3 active models at this current point, Wow is right. No contest when you look at it like that.
I still think Apple make the greatest phones and would not want to bother with Android if it was up to me. It is not of course, so we have to play nice.

What Next? Apple and its endeavors to keeping its followers happy
Apple claim to have sold over 3 million New iPad's. This is indicative of they power Apple has and what it has to offer to its very strong followers. iPhone sales for the iPhone 4S on launch was a little over 4 million. So the New iPad sales is truly a success story when one thinks that the cellphone market is bigger than the tablet market. There is of course a lot of speculation as to what Apple are going to be doing as far as the new iPhone which if the last release date is anything to go by, then we should be seeing the latest and greatest iPhone in around October 2012.
TAZ - Tech Accessory Owner, Guy Driver feels that there is not a whole lot apple can do other than a completely new shape, slightly larger screen, a faster processor and improvements on Siri and of course 4G LTE. The iPhone 4S has an awesome camera and the phone already makes use of a Retina display, so one has to wonder what on earth Apple can come up with to make the new Apple iPhone a huge hit. Thankfully the Apple followers will lap anything up that Apple throw at them. Hopefully Apple wont follow the trend of the massive 4.5 inch screens Samsung are coming out with. I think a 3.8 inch screen would do just fine. Hell the screens already cost so much to be repaired, now we want them bigger. The New iPad Is Finally Here.

So the iPad is finally here
Confirming reports from earlier this month, Apple has finally sent out invites to an iPad-related event taking place on March 7. As in years past, Apple is holding its event at San Francisco's Yerba Buena Center for the Arts in downtown San Francisco, as opposed to its headquarters in Cupertino, Calif. where the company recently held its annual shareholders meeting and the unveiling of the iPhone 4S last October.
The invite says only "We have something you really have to see. And touch." Sounds interesting right? Maybe they have finally done away with the backButton??
The date confirms a report from iMore (formerly Tipb) earlier this month, claiming Apple would be holding it on March 7, and matches up with a story from All Things Digital before that, which said Apple would be holding an event in the first week of March.
Since its introduction, Apple has proclaimed both 2010 and 2011 as the "year of the iPad." The company sold 32 million iPads during its fiscal 2011, reporting another 15.43 million units in its first quarter of 2012. All told, the company's sold more than 55 million iPads since its introduction.
This big feature rumored to be coming to this year's model is a display that packs four times the number of pixels as the first and second-generation models, which we woild commonly know as the so-called Retina Displays found on the company's recent model iPhones andiPod Touches. Other expected features include a speedier processor, better cameras, and the possibility of 4G LTE networking. I still wonder if they will finally leave out the back button for the gesture control feature

One of the fundamental precepts of great businesses is to narrow your market focus and expand your yield. Great companies are maniacally focused on who their customers are – and who they aren’t. Jim Collins made that clear in his seminal book Good to Great.
BlackBerry, at one time, was an absolute killer device. Never actually had one and so can't say I actually loved it, but knew many, many people who did and professed to love it and swear by it. Ever since the iPhone came out, and the smart phone category exploded, BlackBerry has been struggling with finding its place. The Storm was a disaster (on all counts), and they continue to lose market share. Does anybody even buy BlackBerry anymore?? are there any available?? Oh sorry i forgot! all the South Americans and everyone else who lives by using the free service called BBM, Thats the only reason BlackBerry still lives today, because the rest of the world needs the free BBM service.
To fight that, they keep “innovating” and coming out with new products. A recent view of their website highlights seven different models to chose from. So I ask, what is a BlackBerry?
In contrast, Apple offers one model (two if you consider the fact that they are still selling the 3GS), and no one need ask the question, “What is an iPhone?”
Watching BlackBerry’s approach reminds me of the 1991 movie, Other People’s Money. In it, Danny DeVito played the memorable character Larry the Liquidator. In trying to takeover a dying company, he said:
Think about this for a moment. Who loves – I mean really loves – their BlackBerry?
Now, what’s their newest device? The BlackBerry Style. Huh?! What?! If someone is buying a phone for “style;” guess what – they’re buying an iPhone.
People who buy BlackBerrys buy them for function. BlackBerry BBM or they just cannot get the hang of the touch screen and have to have a keyboard, Right!
What Should BlackBerry Do?
To ensure its future, BlackBerry needs to stop playing other people’s games. They need to focus on their core market – heavy duty email users.
Is that a smaller market than the size of their current business today? Yup. But guess what, BlackBerry isn’t as big as it thinks it is.

Heavy duty email users – that’s who. But then are they really getting a superior e-mail format?? the iPhone has made huge head roads into this field and i don't think they are doing a bad job. I see a large migration from BlackBerry to iPhone's in the corporate world today.

It appears that the iPad 3 will not be a completely new design and follow the trend of the iPhone 3G to iPhone 3GS and the iPhone 4 to the Apple iPhone 4S. I personally dont see why thats a big deal. Guess who moved Korean giant Samsung back into the number two spot for smartphone vendors? According to numbers released in the fourth quarter of 2011, Apple has moved back into the number one spot by a small margin. These numbers are according to research firm Strategy Analytics and IHS iSuppli.Samsung moved into the number one spot in the third quarter of last year as customers were impatiently waiting for the iPhone 4S. Global smartphone sales grew 54 percent annually to reach a record of 155 million units in the fourth quarter of 2011 according to Alex Spector, Associate Director at Strategy Analytics. Apple’s global smartphone shipments grew an astounding 128 percent annually to 37 million units across multiple countries. Samsung shipments were up 241 percent at 36.5 million. Talk about a close competition!Apple and Samsung are also involved in fierce patent litigation as Apple is trying to block Samsung devices in multiple markets.The numbers for Nokia cut in half from 33% in 2010 to 16% in 2011, probably because of it’s lacking touchscreen portfolio and it’s tiny presence in the U.S. market. Experts will be watching to see how Microsoft and Nokia partner in 2012 to expand the 4G LTE. Android didn’t fare so well either as the marketplace is becoming crowded with various licensees competing for a smaller customer base. The fact that the glass covering the iphone is used
constantly and subject to weather changes, being dropped and generally handled
means that there is a small but existing chance of it breaking. When the screen
on an iPhone is broken, it renders the entire phone useless. Repairing the
digitizer does not mean you have to be separated from your phone for ages. You
can do this repair at home. But I would not suggest this and take no

Instructions
1 ) Take out the two
screws on the bottom of the iPhone and remove the SIM card by poking the SIM
tool into the hole in the top of the phone.
2) Press down the suction cup from the digitizer replacement
kit onto the glass and firmly pull it up. Carefully lift glass up without
pulling out the wires, keeping the back and front pieces attached.
3) Pull up the ribbon cable using a small screwdriver and
separate the LCD from the back of the phone. Remove the small screws along the
sides of the LCD frame.
4) Peel off the black gasket tape from around the LCD,
behind the glass front. Run the metal tool between the LCD and the metal frame
rails along the sides to allow you to pry the glass and LCD apart.
5) Set the LCD aside without touching the front with your
fingers at any point. Place the glass panel, with the back facing up, down on
the table.
6) Apply heat from a hair dryer around the edge of the glass
and pry the frame off the glass. Start on the lower edge of the panel and
slowly work your way around using the metal tool.
7) Peel off the stickers that came with your replacement
digitizer and place them on the front of the frame, along the top and bottom.
Make sure the stickers you put on each end fit the shape of the frame before
pressing them down.
8) Remove the front adhesive from the new stickers and from
the back of the new glass and digitizer.
9) Place the glass down on top of the frame with the
stickers and press it down. The digitizer should go in through the middle of
frame and stick out the other side when the glass is pressed down.
10) Set the LCD back into the frame with the new glass and

So if you want to attempt your own repair then here goes.
The fact that the glass covering the iphone is used
constantly and subject to weather changes, being dropped and generally handled
means that there is a small but existing chance of it breaking. When the screen
on an iPhone is broken, it renders the entire phone useless. Repairing the
digitizer does not mean you have to be separated from your phone for ages. You
can do this repair at home. But I would not suggest this and take no
responsibility for you following these simple guidelines and instructions on
how to repair your iPhone at home. I

Instructions
1 ) Take out the two
screws on the bottom of the iPhone and remove the SIM card by poking the SIM
tool into the hole in the top of the phone.
2) Press down the suction cup from the digitizer replacement
kit onto the glass and firmly pull it up. Carefully lift glass up without
pulling out the wires, keeping the back and front pieces attached.
3) Pull up the ribbon cable using a small screwdriver and
separate the LCD from the back of the phone. Remove the small screws along the
sides of the LCD frame.
4) Peel off the black gasket tape from around the LCD,
behind the glass front. Run the metal tool between the LCD and the metal frame
rails along the sides to allow you to pry the glass and LCD apart.
5) Set the LCD aside without touching the front with your
fingers at any point. Place the glass panel, with the back facing up, down on
the table.
6) Apply heat from a hair dryer around the edge of the glass
and pry the frame off the glass. Start on the lower edge of the panel and
slowly work your way around using the metal tool.
7) Peel off the stickers that came with your replacement
digitizer and place them on the front of the frame, along the top and bottom.
Make sure the stickers you put on each end fit the shape of the frame before
pressing them down.
8) Remove the front adhesive from the new stickers and from
the back of the new glass and digitizer.
9) Place the glass down on top of the frame with the
stickers and press it down. The digitizer should go in through the middle of
frame and stick out the other side when the glass is pressed down.
10) Set the LCD back into the frame with the new glass and
digitizer and screw it together. Reconnect the ribbon cable and close the phone
up before putting the screws and SIM card back into place.
